Putting Yourself Out There 3/1/2018

slice of life_individual

When you try something new the anxiety is always overwhelming. You don’t know if you are doing it right or if you will be good enough. You don’t know how to start it or how to finish it or if everything in the middle even makes sense. You don’t know if it will be interesting or engaging or if anyone will care.

When you try something new the anxiety is always overwhelming. You try your best and apply what you know. You try to share something special with others or accomplish it for yourself. You try to put your best self forward.

When you try something new the anxiety is always overwhelming. You hope that what you want to happen will work out in the end. You hope you can create something you are proud of. You hope to inspire others or to give them something you didn’t know you were capable of giving.

When you try something new the anxiety is always overwhelming but you do it anyway because taking risks is the best way to learn. Whether you are anxious, do it right, do it wrong, everyone cares, or no ones does, you are changing yourself for the better. You put yourself out there, despite the anxiety, to be apart of something bigger than your fears.

  1. I’m so excited that you found the courage to overcome your anxiety for this challenge. Your repetition and reflection were powerful. You will LOVE this month and not because it will be easy, but because it will be so rewarding! What a great inaugural slice! Happy slicing all month!

  2. I love how you repeated the line! The first year is always the hardest! It gets easier! Remember you can include images too as your post.

  3. Welcome! I think those who have sliced for years (I am on year 5) still feel that anxiety! Be a part of something bigger than your fears – that is what this challenge is all about!

  4. Hi! First, I love the title of your blog! And I’m a music teacher, so I’m all about the specials teachers love πŸ™‚

Second, as someone who also has anxiety through the roof, I identify with a lot of what you said. I worry a lot. So I get it! But you did it! And know that there truly is no wrong way to do this. Whatever you write is just right.

  5. I’m a first-time slicer too and I really loved this post. The feelings you described are the same I struggled with. I also really love how you repeat the first line with the slight change at the very end. It left me feeling inspired to keep going and overcome my anxiety.

  6. First of all, I LOVE the name of your blog! I am thinking how your willingness to take a risk is giving me a little more courage to take a drawing class. Can “non-artists” learn to draw?

  7. First, I love the name of your blog. What a clever play on words. I love art and museums, so if you post only about famous artists and their works and share your expertise, I’ll be here reading every post.

As others have mentioned, the repetition of “when you do something new” is very effective. It emphasizes the struggle we all face, regardless of age and experience.

Enjoy your writing journey as you enjoy lingering in a museum watching the masterworks. I’m glad you’re here. Welcome!

  8. Welcome to the slicing community! I love your use of repetition in this post. It is scary to try new things, but at the same time very exhilarating. And this is a very easy going and supportive community! Enjoy the journey!
